We are getting a new Ayi tomorrow. The kids did not connect with Wen, our old Ayi. Plus she wanted too much money and we didn't want to be the ones who paid too much and ruined it for everyone. While she was a wonderful cook and cleaner she just wasn't the warm fuzzy Ayi that the kids need. Our new Ayi's name is Lilly and the kids liked her when she came over to interview. She is Chinese and speaks a little english. We will spend her five hours here tomorrow playing together as a family, showing her the bus routine for the kids etc. I hope that it goes well.
The kids are really happy with school and their new teachers. I am really excited for both of them and the education that they are going to get. Both of their teachers are extremely caring which matters so much during this time of change. The kids at SAS are amazing. It's a completely different job for Brian and I. I have a few ESL kiddos but also some readers. It's a neat mix. My TA is a great help and really good with the kids too. It's crazy that there are two of us for 14 kids. With that said, I am not totally prepared at school yet and feel a little out of control still. If you know me as a teacher, I like to be very on top of things in the classroom. I will get there soon though as I have an amazing team and amazing support from everyone around. We are so busy with the kids (especially since they wouldn't stay alone with our old Ayi) and just trying to buy groceries, prepare snacks etc. that I have had very little time in my classroom. There are also a million meetings and I am running on information overload.....but it will be amazing at some point soon. :) Now that the kids are in school full time, our Ayi will be able to do a lot for us during the day. It will just take some time to build the routines.
The kids and I enjoyed some swimming after school today and look forward to the weekend together. It is quite a change for Carina, Bryson and I as we were used to having the afternoons together the last few years! We are all exhausted from the first three school days so I am off to bed.
Goodnight from Shanghai!
Sybil :)
Thank you so much sharing! Sounds like you guys are well settled now. Aariz says HI and that misses you and also that he having a good time in 1st grade!
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Hi Sybil....takes a while to settle in and sounds like you are taking care of one of the most important things in a timely manner. How is Brian doing? When we skyped recently he was hoarse from the air quality I think. YOU will get on top of things pretty soon. You have only been there a short while and getting your family in order is certainly important. The meetins and information overload will diminish soon. Love you.... Dad
